VP of Partnerships and Experiences, HeyMama
Anti-Asian racism and violence has a deep, long history in the US — but in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, things are more terrifying and infuriating on this front than they’ve ever been. The consequences: AAPI people are experiencing a ton of fear, anger, and traumatic feelings, and non-AAPI allies are wondering how they can support, care for, and protect the people in their lives and communities.
I brought this virtual panel to HeyMama, programmed it with leading AAPI voices within the HeyMama community, and worked with Ria of Urban Ohana to create a run of show and thoughtful questions that would lead to meaningful dialogue for our speakers. This resulted in 50+ attendees who joined us live for the virtual discussion.
Because we know that speaking about something with as much honesty as possible is the best first step towards solving problems and mitigating harm, we be addressed sensitive topics directly, giving raw voice to individuals’ lived experiences.
